Wonder: Experimental Digital Photography

Wonder’ is a photograph series that expresses a youthful hunger for wisdom, not in an aged way, but rather in a pure and childlike manner. This is evident in the high-contrast images with vibrant colours, which resemble the restoration of the awe-inspiring surroundings. A fisheye lens was used to achieve warped perspectives and a wide angle, which allows for the viewer to be more intimate with the artist who is the subject matter, or for the artist to be more intimate with the viewer, through the intimate gazes in some of the images, and revealing more of the interior space. Furthermore, the broad perspective, paired with the poses in the photos, gives the series an almost quirky and amusing feel, which altogether displays an upright passion for even the most mundane things. Long shutter speeds with low ISO and a small aperture were used in the second three images of the series to achieve faded figures, light trails, and glowing surfaces, displaying the hidden magic or ‘wonder’ within the seeking. “Wonder” is almost a visual representation of the Psalmist's request: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer”; the artist's prayers.
